IRCS Kallakurichi Equips Sankarapuram and Alathur Communities with Lifesaving Skills Ahead of Northeast Monsoon

Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu – October 15, 2025 – As part of a proactive disaster preparedness initiative for the upcoming Northeast Monsoon, the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Kallakurichi District today conducted essential first aid and emergency response training for the public. Under the guidance of the Kallakurichi District Collector, these vital sessions were held to empower local residents with the skills needed to save lives during emergencies.

The first training session took place at 12:00 PM within the Sankarapuram Tahsildar's office complex. A second session followed at 3:00 PM at the Alathur Revenue Inspector's office campus. Both events saw enthusiastic participation from community members, who were eager to learn practical, lifesaving techniques.

The core focus of the training was Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), a critical first aid procedure that can mean the difference between life and death during a cardiac emergency, which can be a risk during floods or other crisis situations. Our trained IRCS instructors provided hands-on demonstrations, guiding participants through the correct steps to assist someone who is unresponsive or not breathing. The community's active engagement and eagerness to learn were truly inspiring.

"When a disaster strikes, the first responders are often neighbors and community members," said an IRCS Kallakurichi representative. "Our goal is to ensure that every citizen has the confidence and knowledge to act decisively in an emergency. By teaching CPR, we are building a more resilient community from the ground up."

In addition to the first aid training, the event featured a crucial fire safety demonstration conducted by the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services. Firefighters showcased effective techniques for controlling and extinguishing fires, another vital skill for monsoon-related emergencies such as electrical short circuits.

These preparedness programs are a cornerstone of our mission to support the people of Kallakurichi. By collaborating with district administration, including the Tahsildar and Revenue Inspector offices, we are strengthening our collective ability to face the challenges of the monsoon season. We believe that an informed and trained community is the best defense against any potential disaster.

The Indian Red Cross Society – Kallakurichi District remains committed to its humanitarian mission of serving the people and alleviating suffering. We will continue to organize such awareness and training programs to ensure the safety and well-being of every resident in our district.
