Tirukoilur, Kallakurichi District – On October 17, 2025, the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Kallakurichi District chapter reaffirmed its commitment to community safety by organizing two crucial training programs in the Tirukoilur region. We conducted a comprehensive Disaster Management workshop for government officials at the Tirukoilur Taluk Office and a public First Aid and CPR awareness camp at the Government Aided Primary School in Aavi Kolapakkam village.
These initiatives were designed to equip local leaders and citizens with the practical knowledge needed to respond effectively during emergencies, strengthening the district's overall resilience.
At the Tirukoilur Taluk Office, we gathered All Department Officers for an intensive Disaster Management Training session. The workshop focused on building a coordinated and swift response mechanism for various emergencies, with a special emphasis on local climate-related risks.
A key practical module of the training focused on survival techniques during flash floods—a critical skill in our region. Participants were actively engaged in a hands-on demonstration showing how to form a human chain to rescue individuals from surging water and how to stay safe during such sudden events. The session moved beyond theory, providing tangible actions that can save lives when every second counts.
"Our goal is to ensure that our district's administrative leaders are not just managers but also first responders," an IRCS Kallakurichi trainer explained. "When officials are trained in disaster response, the entire community benefits from faster, more effective aid. We believe preparedness at the official level is the foundation of community safety."
Later in the day, our mission extended to the heart of the community at Aavi Kolapakkam village. In the open grounds of the local primary school, we held a CPR and First Aid awareness camp for the public, including students and residents.
The session demystified Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), a life-saving technique crucial during cardiac emergencies. Using training mannequins, our instructors demonstrated the correct procedures for chest compressions and rescue breaths, empowering attendees with the confidence to act decisively in a medical crisis.
This public awareness drive underscores our belief that first aid knowledge should be accessible to everyone. By bringing this training directly to the village, we are helping to create a network of citizen first responders who can provide immediate care long before professional medical help arrives. The engagement from the villagers, from young students to elders, was a testament to the community's desire to help one another. We are deeply encouraged by their enthusiasm to learn skills that protect their loved ones and neighbors.
Together, these two programs reflect our holistic approach to safety—empowering administrative bodies and grassroots communities simultaneously. IRCS Kallakurichi remains dedicated to fostering a culture of preparedness, ensuring that our district is ready and resilient in the face of any challenge.
