KACHIRAPALAYAM, KALLAKURICHI DISTRICT – October 15, 2025 – As part of our proactive measures to safeguard the community against the upcoming Northeast Monsoon, the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Kallakurichi District today hosted a crucial public training session on first aid and disaster response. Held at the G.V. Mahal in Kachirapalayam, the event equipped local residents with essential, life-saving skills, reflecting our unwavering commitment to building a resilient community.
Under the guidance of the Kallakurichi District Collector and the dedicated leadership of our IRCS Kallakurichi team, the program was designed to empower every individual with the confidence to act decisively in an emergency. The session, which began at 3:00 PM, drew an engaged and enthusiastic audience from across the area, all eager to learn how to protect their families and neighbors.
A central focus of the afternoon was a hands-on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training workshop. Dr. S. Ponnarasu, MD, Chairman of IRCS Kallakurichi, personally led the demonstration. He guided participants through the simple but critical steps of CPR, explaining how immediate intervention during a cardiac emergency can dramatically increase the chances of survival. The public’s active participation was inspiring, as attendees practiced the techniques with great interest, transforming from observers into potential first responders.
"In any emergency, the first few minutes are the most critical," stated Dr. S. Ponnarasu during the training. "Our goal at the Red Cross is not just to provide relief but to build preparedness from the ground up. By teaching skills like CPR, we are placing the power to save a life directly into the hands of the community. Today, we saw a remarkable spirit of service and a collective desire to help one another, which is the very foundation of our humanitarian mission."
The training also featured a vital fire safety demonstration conducted by the local Fire and Rescue Services department. Firefighters showcased proper techniques for extinguishing different types of fires and explained essential safety protocols to follow during emergencies, which are particularly relevant during the monsoon season when electrical short circuits and other hazards can increase. This collaboration underscores the strong partnership between IRCS Kallakurichi and district emergency services, all working together for public safety.
This initiative is a key component of our broader monsoon preparedness strategy. In recent weeks, IRCS Kallakurichi has been coordinating with district authorities to ensure that our volunteers, resources, and community response plans are fully aligned and ready for any eventuality.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the people of Kachirapalayam for their enthusiastic involvement. The success of this event is a testament to our shared belief that a prepared community is a strong community. The skills learned here today will undoubtedly contribute to a safer environment for everyone as we navigate the challenges of the monsoon season.
This effort was made possible by the leadership of the IRCS Kallakurichi board, including Dr. S. Ponnarasu (Chairman), Mr. A. Ilayaperumal (Vice Chairman), Mr. S. Immanuel Sasikumar (Secretary), and Mr. M. Suresh Kumar (Treasurer), who remain dedicated to serving the people of our district.
