Thirunavalur, Kallakurichi District – October 18, 2025 – In a proactive move to safeguard communities ahead of the Northeast monsoon, the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Kallakurichi District played a pivotal role in a multi-departmental preparedness training for frontline volunteers. Held at St. Joseph College in Thirunavalur, the event was organized following the directive of the Kallakurichi District Collector to strengthen community resilience against potential weather-related challenges.
The comprehensive session brought together a dedicated group of first responders, village officials, and local body employees, all committed to serving as the first line of defense during emergencies. Our team from IRCS Kallakurichi was honored to lead a critical segment on life-saving skills and public health awareness.
District Chairman of IRCS Kallakurichi, Dr. S. Ponnarasu, along with Vice Chairman A. Elayaperumal, District Secretary S. Emanuvel Sasi Kumar, and District Treasurer M. Suresh Kumar, guided the volunteers through essential first-aid protocols. The training focused on practical, real-world scenarios, including:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): A hands-on demonstration of how to respond effectively during cardiac emergencies.
Emergency Response: Crucial guidance on handling common incidents like snakebites and dog bites, which can see a rise during rainy seasons.
Crowd Management: Techniques to safely navigate and escape from situations of overcrowding, a vital skill during evacuations or relief distributions.
Preventive Health: Spreading awareness about protecting oneself from infectious diseases that become more prevalent during the monsoon.
Our goal was not just to instruct but to empower. We believe that a well-informed volunteer is a force for calm and a beacon of hope in times of crisis. The engagement and eagerness to learn from the participants were truly inspiring and reinforced the strong spirit of service that defines our community.
The collaborative nature of the event was its greatest strength. The presence of the Thirunavalur Sub-Collector, Tahsildars, village administrative officers, and town panchayat staff highlighted a unified approach to disaster management. This synergy ensures that every level of local governance and community service is aligned and prepared to act cohesively.
Concluding the day’s activities, the Fire and Rescue Services department delivered an impactful practical demonstration on fire safety and first aid for burn injuries, with a special focus on preventing accidents during the upcoming Diwali festivities. This timely session added another layer of preparedness, ensuring the safety of our communities during celebrations.
We, at the Indian Red Cross Society Kallakurichi, are immensely proud to contribute to building a safer, more prepared district. The dedication of every volunteer and official who participated promises a stronger, more resilient community ready to face the challenges of the monsoon season together. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the District administration and St. Joseph College for facilitating this essential program.
